This is a must do ride and one voted by many as the best hill ride of the year.
Especially for anyone who has penciled in the 3 peaks for March, you need to make November the start of your mountain training.
Basic timetable
- Leave Melb by mid afternoon to avoid the traffic otherwise the ring road is a really pain
Drive to Oxley for dinner at King River Cafe - I have a booking (contact number 57273461) - Stay in 1 or 2 houses, depending on numbers – costs to be shared. Probably about $35 a head (maybe a little more)
- Breakfast is self cater (and needed to get up the hill)
- Depart once everyone is ready around 7:30am
- Ride distance approx 130 km return
- Climb distance 30kms
- Climb time 1.5 to 2hrs
- Gearing - a couple of spots really do need a 27 or compact cranks
- Coffee and muffin at the top
- Great descent
- Fantastic beer at the bottom
- Nice steady final 30kms home
- Shower and change (late checkout by 3pm)
- Head for Melb by approx 7pm
- Be nice to family before falling asleep.
