Leon “Leaping” Sims. Bayside Bandidos Cycling Club Lycra Legend
Rituals are important for most groups. They provide structure, identity and help to unite us. We have many and whilst many of them are light hearted and mostly irreverent (or in the case of Sandybottom, ir-reverand), some are a little more serious. In recent time, our club has recognised one of the endearing features of our sport; it’s ageless quality. We have the good fortune to have riders of all ages. Special recognition is given to our members who are 60 years young as they are inducted into the bandido hall of fame as ‘Lycra Legends’.

On Saturday, we had a huge turn out of riders and friends help celebrate the induction of our newest legend, Leon Sims. Velocino played host and ‘El-Prez’ was MC. Special versions of the jersey have been produced for our lycra legends to wear acknowledging their ‘legendary’ status. Elvis performed one of his first official duties as our recently elected ‘El-Prez’ when he presented Leon with his Lycra Legend Bandido jersey.

After a bit of a shakey start to the way we handle one of newest rituals, Saturday’s induction showed that we might finally be on the right track in the way that we celebrate such and important milestone. To Leon and all of our current legends, we salute you and to our future ones, we look forward to more irreverent celebrations!!
