Petrusbob is to the Bandidos what Amelda Marcos was to the shoe world: our ‘hoarder in chief’.
Thankfully his passion is retro bike gear and he managed to share that passion with the rest of us during the inaugural ‘liquorice allsort retro ride day’.

There were some retro jerseys, bikes, fixies and plenty of retro riders. Bob organised a treat by displaying one of Cinelli’s more creative engineering solutions to the altar of the ‘quick wheel change’; the bivalent hub. Suffice to say, it was an ingenious concept that was probably ahead of it’s time. Consequently, only a small number were made with an even smaller number located here in Australia. We had the privilege of seeing one in the flesh today at Cafe Velocino who graciously hosted the post ride display and celebrations.


Velocino were the perfect hosts as always.

Cinelli bivalent hub removed (skewer would need to be pulled all the way out for it to be properly removed.). Note that the splined freewheel and cassette remains attached to the frame as would the derailleur and chain. Neat hey?

Other notables where Elvis and his lovely old track bike. Also on fixies were Leaping, Al-ex Pres and Wazza. Whilst not exactly retro, Debs gets an honourable mention for simply riding this rig.


Debs, Pilly and Ollie just crooozin. Now if Ollie would pedal just a little more.................

Enough about the people, the stars of the day of course were the bikes.

The days when saddles had to broken in, brakes only looked good and steel was real..(ly heavy).

Meanwhile, Giovani appears to age, noticeably.



Bikes, bandidos, banter and coffee. Lovely!

Unfortunately, the dreaded lurgy kept me off the road this morning but by all accounts, a great ride was had by all.


There was encouraging talk of the “next one” and the bikes and bits that would somehow materialise from mysterious places all around bayside. I think you’ve started something Bob. Thanks for pulling it together and thanks to Deb, Mark and the team for hosting it.
