Dazzling Daggy Dazza's Debut

Dags frocking up for his debut
Tonight at DISC, Melbourne's indoor velodrome was Daggy Dazza's debut to track racing. He's been joining Bob Beattie and myself (Leaping) for several Thursday nights and riding during the warm-up and then just enjoying socialising on the infield while we participated in the three event meeting for grades ranging from D to A.
The night starts with a scratch race, then a point score and finally ending with a motor pace event.
As Elvis once sang, "It's Now or Never". No not that Elvis...
Well Dags took to the racing like a duck to water. Feeling his way in the scratch race, he finished in a creditable front end of the field.
Having got the feel of track racing in the first event, the point score I felt might be a little challenging - how wrong was I. Taking the race quietly over the first sprint and conserving energy, he surprised us by taking out a later sprint with all the class of a seasoned trackie. A further placing in another sprint gave him a placing (2nd I think) overall.
The last event being the motor pace where the Derny leaves the track at 2 and a 1/2 laps to go saw Dags position himself well. Many riders couldn't hold the pace of the derny but Dags just took it in his stride. On the last lap he launched into a well timed sprint and down the back straight left his fellow riders in his wake. Honestly there was daylight to second place.
Dag's wins the D-grade motor-pacein his French Bandido jersey.
Great effort Dags for your first track race at DISC.
To celebrate, Bob, Darren and I shared a bottle of Pinot at a Cafe in Station Street Fairfield before wandering off home.
A great night and a great success.
Any other Racing Didos like to join us soon?
