Ballarat - BRRRRRRRRRRR

While we were heading up and down Beach Road Saturday, Kiwi, Dave Blake and Bob Beattie braved the cold single figure weather of Ballarat in the annual Melbourne to Ballarat.
Dave reported on this over the weekend. Bob returned to Melbourne and picked Nico and I up for a return visit to compete in the Club Teams Time Trial for the Carnegie Caulfield Cycling Club as did a few other Bandido riders. Nico rode in a team with Bob Quirk and took out bronze in the 3 man team for Masters with a combined age of more than 135 years.
I helped out the age limit with Bob Beattie and Grant Boydell with a result of!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hmmm, well we finished anyway.

Nico displays his bronze medal on behalf of his fellow team including Bob Quirk.

There were a few Junior Bandidos there including the Boydell boys, along with Emma Doyle and Tom Quirk.

After the event the two country old timers, Bob and Nico got into a conversation of track racing and the old Ballarat bike track in Victoria Park. Following their fading memories, we drove through the parklands to discover what looked like a shallow raised banking from the roadside. Sure nuff, there it was!
A former shadow of itself, the bitumen was dissappearing under earth and weeds.

I wonder what great cyclists of the past raced here?
